About the Tour
About “PHAME: the H is for Honored Tour” 2012
“PHAME: the H is for Honored Tour” is a dynamic new initiative that will change attitudes, minds and hearts across the Portland region - a Portland regional performance and exhibition tour, March 14-22 2012, starring PHAME’s inspiring adult performers and artists with developmental disabilities. The initiative marks PHAME’s first regional tour in the organization’s twenty-seven year history.
From March 14 to 22, 2012, more than forty PHAME student actors, dancers, musicians, artists and writers – supported by PHAME staff, volunteers and partner community members and organizations – will embark on a four-county tour of the Portland metropolitan region, singing, dancing, acting, and sharing their writing and visual art for more than 3,000 community members in cities from Estacada and Hillsboro to Vancouver, WA and Tualatin, as well as in several Portland neighborhoods. Along “PHAME: the H is for Honored Tour” over eight days, PHAME artists will offer at least twelve performances and showings at community centers, high schools, theaters and senior centers, showcasing the incredible talents of our adult artists with developmental disabilities.
The tour culminates in a full showcase of PHAME artists, open to the community with free-will donation, at the Aladdin Theater in Southeast Portland - on Thursday, March 22, 2012.
The specific goals of “PHAME: the H is for Honored Tour” initiative are:
- Help change hearts and minds in the Portland area community to better accept and appreciate the incredible talents, humanity and dignity of persons with developmental disabilities.
- Increase the confidence, self-esteem and pride of persons with developmental disabilities throughout the region, especially the PHAME student artists participating in and experiencing this tour, as well as developmentally disabled individuals attending tour performances.
- Introduce Portland area underserved communities to the incredible power of the fine and performing arts through committed live performance, readings and art exhibition from some of the region’s most talented artists.
